India insists on complete disengagement, China warns against lost territory

During the nearly two and a half hour meeting between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Chinese counterpart General Wei Fenghe on Friday evening in Moscow, India told China that the “actions of the Chinese troops, including amassing of large number of troops, their aggressive behaviour and attempts to unilaterally alter the status quo were in violation of the bilateral agreements and not in keeping with the understandings reached between the Special Representatives of two sides,” the Defence Ministry said in a statement Saturday.

However, a statement by China’s Defence Ministry said Wei told Singh that the responsibility of the tensions “lies entirely with India”. The statements by both the countries, blaming each other for the border tensions, follow the first meeting between the two defence ministers since the start of the military standoff in early May.
